The APCAV general assembly was held at the Salle des Combins of the Verbier Festival on Monday July 29, 2024 in the presence of 140 people.
Brigitte Borel, President of the association, highlighted the challenges that face the resort’s stakeholders. She first reported the aspects linked to climate change and the extreme weather events that result from it, such as the violent storms that recently affected the Canton du Valais. Proficient natural disaster risk management will be essential in the years to come, for the management of water resources, given the alternating periods of drought and heavy rain that must be expected. She then emphasized that sustainability is at the heart of the Municipality’s actions and that numerous commitments and projects are underway. Ms. Borel spoke about the social aspects of sustainable development, in particular the need to manage tourism in such a way as to maintain a balance between tourism and local life and to maintain diversity in businesses. We are faced with challenges that must be managed well, especially since it is likely that the attractiveness of Verbier will continue to increase over the years.
The latest news from Verbier and the Municipality were than presented to the membership. Our thanks go to Hervé Boissière, new co-CEO of the Verbier Festival, Vincent Michellod, vice-president of the Municipality of Val de Bagnes, Guillaume Collin, Operational Director of construction, land use planning and mobility, Laurent Vaucher, CEO of Téléverbier SA and Simon Wiget, Director of Verbier Tourisme. What emerges from these various interventions is a common desire to be committed to sustainability and to promote an active, functioning resort all year round.
